Rare armchair, Alvar Aalto, O.Y Wilhelm Schauman A.B, 1930/1940s

Rare armchair, designed by Alvar Aalto, manufactured by O.Y Wilhelm Schauman A.B Jyväskylä, Suomi, 1930/1940s. Commissioned for the restaurant at the New York World's Fair. Later plush fabric upholstery. Birch and birch veneer. Good vintage condition, minor patina consistent with age and use. 

Although the design is not typical of Aalto, it is representative of Finnish design in the 1930s. The armchairs are quality work by Schauman, who decorated many public buildings and homes during this period.
